Today Ellis Island stands only as a memory. The bustling halls that once welcomes immigrants and refugees from all over the world is now simply a museum that connects us to our past. America is often defined as a country of immigrants, and no where is that truer than New York City. The New York Daily News reports that Queens is the most diverse place on the planet, and it didn't get that way by accident. For sixty years Ellis Island ushered wave after wave of new Americans through their harbors, for some 12 million people Ellis Island was the first American soil they stepped foot on. For my research paper I wish to write about the impact of this great hub on the culture of our city.
