I first met Anna and Sal in 2006, they were in need of a home health aide for her father who had dementia. Her Mom was sick also and she was caring for her with the help of Sal her husband. So when I so show up on her door step I was welcome with open arms.
As time went on I came to realize that this was an Italian American family. An important center of the Italian life is family and the woman plays a major role and also in the workplace. Some women work part-time in factories, domestic services or operate the family small business like Anna, she operated her father's candy and ice cream shop. Anna father open his shop in Middle Village when he came over from Italy. You could see flashes of recognition when Anna recall days spent in the ice creams shop as a little girl.
I became closer to the family and met Anna daughter, her husband, grandson along with nieces and cousins all surrounding some exquisite cuisine. The wine, cheese and pasta are all important in an Italian meal, but all meals are different because base on were your from our cuisine will be different. The North and South eat differently from Sicily, but they are just as good but you will never find the same cuisine. I must say I was my heaviest when I work with this family.
The Architecture has many styles like Roman, Renaissance, Baroque, and Neoclassical. Some of the most famous structure in the world are the leaning tower of Pisa and the famous colosseum. Also the Vatican where the Pope lives and conduct services, then the Sistine Chapel, the many museums in Florence, Venice, and Rome. Not to mention the magnificent churches and beautiful building, Italy has so much history.
