Have you ever traveled outside of New York ? While walking out the the airplane , The smell the taste and even the feel of the air is different. Well that is because New York is slowly deteriorating due to air pollution. Although there have been significant improvements over the last decade air pollution stands as a huge environmental threat toward New York yet along our entire planet. Many travel from all over the world to consume all the greatness that our city has to offer. But are unaware to what they're actually consuming. According to New York City community air service 60 sites throughout New York City contain P.M 2.5, a tiny particle that floats in the air containing droplets of solids and liquids. P.M 2.5 is less than 10 micrometers in diameter , which is equivalent to 3% of the diameter of a human hair. It is caused by indoor and outdoor sources such as trucks, cars, buses, as well as burning candles , frying food, and tobacco smoking. This deadly particle lies as a tornado , harming everything in its path. It can cause lung cancer, heart attacks, irregular heartbeat, aggravated asthma , irritation of airways, etc. It can also damage sensitive forests and farm crops, it changes the nutrient balance in coastal waters and large bodies of water which contributes to acid . Unfortunately air pollution is considered a minor issue in many people's lives but I believe this problem should not be overlooked. According to New York Times “President Donald Trump has instructed the agency to undo certain regulations protecting airways”. Our own president has chosen to throw this issue toward the curb as a result this problem continues to grow spreading like a cycle as it harms our waterways it eventually affects the water we drink and the food we eat leaning toward drastic health issues. Some simple ways of preventing air pollution is by carpooling therefore less gas will be used , turning off lights when not in use, and consider using solar power rather than regular power. Something as small as drying your clothes on a clothes line instead of a dryer. Let's start cleaning up our planet and our systems from all pollutants.
