For my research paper on student’s
college or career- readiness, I
will speak about some statistics involving recent high school graduates and their
preparation prior to entering college. The sources I chose are the US
Department of Education website, The Education Trust organization website and
the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) website. One article from
the US Department of Education website titled “College- and Career-Ready
Students”, called my attention. This article and website provides data on the
standards and assessments done to students throughout the United States. I
consider this to be a reliable source because it is a government- based
website. Similar to the US Department of Education website is the National
Center for Education Statistics (NCES). The NCES is the primary federal entity
that collects and analyzes data on education.("The") Here I can find data not only
from the United States, but in other nations as well. Marni Bromberg and
Christina Theokas say “Too many students leave high school with a diploma in
hand but no clear path forward”, in their report “Meandering Toward Graduation: Transcript Outcomes of High School Graduates”. This article is from the Education Trust organization that promotes high
academics for all students at all levels (Bromberg). I consider this source, although an
organization, to be reliable because they have clearly stated their mission
statement and investigate my very topic, concerning college- and career-
readiness, especially for students of color and low-income statuses.
