                                    An Old Famous Place named Long Acre


         What we call today Times Square, it was called Long Acre In the past, a name that came from a London’s District. Now you may think what does this place (Long Acre) has to do with New York? The answer is this name has no historically meaning attached to this place. In the late 1880’s Long Acre was an empty place with not as many business places as we have today, just drab apartments (McMenaimin).

            In late 1904, the name Long Acre was replaced for its permanent new name, Times Square. The mayor George B. McClellan signed for the name to be changed. He said that Long Acre has no name attached to New York, on the other hand, Times Square has a meaning and will attract more people to get to know this place. This statement was successfully true, because since that change and other changes as bringing bossiness. Give Times Square an amazing fame (Barron).

            The Times was a reason of the replaced of the name, it was said that the times headquarter was one of the tallest building at the time and the reason for the name Times Square.  The name times square remain the official name until this time. This place (Times Square) has remained one of the most famous places in New York(McMenamin).
