The Creation Of The Brooklyn Bridge

It was during the Mid 1800’s when the thought came to the mind of engineer John Roebling, he invested tremendous time articulating the design of the bridge. Excavating into the base of the East River was difficult and treacherous, they tried to decrease the compression of air and erosion and water from ventured into the chambers. He proceeded 44 feet below water on the Brooklyn side, however, digging on the Manhattan side they extended further because of the water level they journey 78 feet under water and this underwater digging had taking place with a gas lantern within the Caisson. The huge stones towers stood tall 300 feet above the water of the river, with the help of technology to visualized below the water level.

The footbridge was fabricated with ropes and wooden planks, the strength of the bridge came from four suspension cable made of heavy wires hugged together on both sides. Tons of cast irons chains 16 inches thick that embraced the steel in place. The capacity of the bridge is 5,989 feet across the East River, the cable dangled over the river connecting the two boroughs within New York City.
