Free School Lunch

Many schools lunch foods are thrown away from children. They can either be from elementary, middle, or high school. The reason behind of that is because of bullying. When a child is qualified for free lunch or reduced school lunch is because their parent’s low income. The children that receive free school lunch don’t eat even if they are hungry. They starve themselves so that they won’t get bullied by those who don’t receive free lunch. As they get older they eat less. It’s a fear of being shamed and bullied. The New York City’s Chancellor Carmen Farina created a program that made everyone eligible for free lunch. The program “The Free School Lunch” wasn’t only for public schools, I was also for private and charter schools. Carmen saw a different perspective from those who get free lunch and get bullied and those who don’t get free food and struggle to pay for school lunch. Carmen had made it easier for everyone and made a big change with the program.

This article made me realized that this problem with school lunch and us kids happens all over. It isn’t easy for those kids whose parents have low income, they are afraid of being bullied and for those kids whose parents receive too much money and still struggle to pay off school lunch food. Children who receive free lunch foods shouldn’t be afraid, they’re eating. Many kids all over don’t get free food. It’s food that you’re getting. They must remember that you need food to survive. There’s nothing wrong with receiving free food. Who wouldn’t want free food? It’s free.  For those kids who don’t receive free school lunch shouldn’t bully those who receive it. They shouldn’t see It as being poor or being “richer” than them. We are all the same. I think that Carmen’s program is great because many things that happen every day to a child can come to an end. I hope it made children realize that they shouldn’t be ashamed about receiving free lunch and had helped families with the payment of school lunch even if their children won’t eat it.
