Martin Shkreli apologizes.
Martin Shkreli, former
Pharmaceutical CEO, former Hedge Fund Manager, and President Donald Trump
supporter offered his Facebook followers five thousand dollars to grab a sample
Hillary Clinton’s hair. Federal prosecutors asked Judge, Kiyo Matsumoto who
sits on Martin Shkreli case to revoke Mr. Shkreli bail status and
Secret service to investigate, calling him a community risk.
Martin Shkreli was found guilty
on three counts of securities fraud in a Brooklyn Federal court during an
August hearing. He lost a lot of investors’ money in a bad investment. Mr.
Shkreli was criticized for raising the price of life saving drugs to treat
patients by five thousand percent in order to pay back money from a bad
investment. He was released on five million dollar bail and waiting to be sentence
in January 2018.
Mr. Shkreli apologized for the
Facebook post in a letter he wrote to Judge Matsumoto. He wanted to apologize
for his behavior and did not intend to promote any act of violence. He stated “did
not expect anyone to take his online comments seriously”. Mr. Shkreli asked
Judge Matsumoto not to change his bail status so he can continue to prepare for
his January 2018 sentencing.
During
a hearing in Brooklyn Federal Court, Judge Matsumoto stated the Facebook
post was Mr. Shkreli first amendment right. “Solicitation assault in exchange
from money” is taken as a threat. Mr. Shkreli does not know his Facebook
followers and what anyone is capable of doing. Fearing one of his Facebook followers
may take him up on his offer secret service increase security around Ms.
Clinton. Immediately after the hearing Martin Shkreli was taken into custody by
Deputy US Marshals. He is a waiting to
be sentence. Martin Shkreli faces up to 20 years in prison.
