Hurricane Irma Causes 5 Nursing Home Residents to Die
According to this New York Times article, police stated that in Hollywood, Florida, "Five people are dead and one hundred and fifteen have been evacuated to a local hospital from a nursing home that had no air conditioning following Hurricane Irma."
Florida city officials described how three residents died at the nursing home and the other two residents died during the evacuation process to a local hospital due to extremely high temperatures.
Staffing shortages also became an issue at the hospitals because many health professionals had trouble with transportation due to a lack of fuel in which, transportation companies also had difficulty moving nursing facility residents.
