What is Happening to the Female Voice in Politics??

The New York Times article " Women's Voice Remains Faint in Politics" by The Editorial Board bring up some crucial points when it comes to women in public office. At the beginning of the article, the author spoke about how currently in New York City only 25% of the seats in the City Council is occupied by women and that there is a more than likely possibility that come January that percentage will be dropping significantly. In addition to that this low percentage of women in the City council also exists in many other large cities in the United States. The author continues the article by speaking upon a study made by CUNY Institute that resulted in showing that not many women run for office anyways. The study also stated that in families, the females are given limited career options to choose from, which is another cause as to why there are so few women in politics. In addition to that, a all female group in the city council say that there should be more women involved, especially when it comes to making decisions that effect every females such as maternity leave, and child care, which is a statement that I completely agree with. Because who knows more about women situations and necessities more than women?
In my opinion I believe that more women should be given a chance to be part of the conversation and be herd. The reason why is because there are things about women that a man will simply never understand, and I'm not speaking only in a social manner, but also in every other aspect that city council is responsible for. In addition to that I believe that there should be more women in the City council rather than just 25% representing the female race in the city. That is because people in this country brag upon how advanced we are as a society and how things have changed, but women are still being restricted and teated as lesser compared to a man, and that has not changed for decades. If this country is really as socially developed as we say, then we must prove it by keeping our word and actually changing the way that things are ran in the United States.
I believe that this source was very persuasive because It not only gave hard facts on why things are the way that they are, but the tone of this piece is very serious, and it straight to the point. The author of this article told the readers whats the problem, why the problem is happening and gave solid evidence on it and then it suggested a resolution that women should be allowed to get more involved. Also the quote "'Women legislators bring with them lived experiences and crucial viewpoints that allow them to identify and take on the unique challenges that women face'" made by the NY Women's caucus is an inarguable point that had been made.
